Why Soy?

Soy wax is non-toxic and burns cleaner than paraffin wax. It has no petrol-carbon soot which is known to blacken walls, ceilings, and furniture. But above all, soy wax differentiates itself from paraffin wax, as it does not release toxins into the air you breathe.

Soybeans are a renewable resource and naturally biodegradable. Should an accidental spill occur, soy wax is easier to remove from materials and other surfaces than its paraffin counterpart. Because soy candles burn at a lower temperature, they burn slower and cooler than paraffin wax candles. This allows us to make a longer lasting candle.

Being a company established in Iowa, we are conscientious of what has been the backbone of our state. Buying soybean products creates important economic growth for the agricultural sector of our state, as well as the US economy.

Soy and the City candles are simply a better alternative for our families, our economy, and our environment!

Get the most out of your Soy and the City candle!

We have put a lot of time, hard work, and research into every different candle we make. We blend in the maximum amount of fragrance in each candle to ensure an amazing scent throw every time you light it. Here are a few tips to get the most out of your candle:

Always trim your wick "¼" prior to burning: You may notice something at the end of your wick that has a mushroom-like appearance. This is the result of the carbon residue that forms on the end of the wick. Before each burn, simply trim the excess mushroom from the wick while preventing debris from falling back into the wax.

How to prevent "tunneling": Tunneling occurs when the candle burns down the middle while leaving excess wax on the edge of the jar. Soy and the City candles have been wicked properly to ensure this does not happen. Be sure to let your candle burn long enough for the very top to become liquefied. Some candles may require a longer burn time initially, like the soytinis, but will eventually even themselves out. If you need to extinguish it sooner, plan to let it burn longer the next time. This should allow it to even out.

Extinguishing you candle: While some prefer to replace the lid on the candle jar to put out their candles, others simply blow out the flame. We prefer to dip the wick back into the wax. This can be done by using either a “wick dipper” or any other nonflammable utensil. Simply dip the wick into the wax until the flame has been extinguished and return the wick to an upright position.
